Dewarne Long is Director of AAW Dance Company and dance faculty at Arts Academy in the Woods. He has choreographed for several high school groups, colleges, and local dance companies. In addition, Dewarne is currently on faculty with the Maggie Allesee Department of Dance at Wayne State University teaching world dance forms and modern dance technique. Moreover, Dewarne teaches modern dance, ballet and jazz technique for the Department of Physical Education and Recreation at Oakland Community College. Dewarne has appeared in lead roles in short films, a dance soloist in the stage play Perilous Times and has also served as a manager for both Complexions Contemporary Ballet Summer Intensive and the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Programs.
A native of Detroit, MI, Dewarne began his training at the Detroit School of Arts majoring in dance with a minor in vocal. He then furthered his education by attending Wayne State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dance Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership. Today, Dewarne is a candidate for an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Certificate in Administration and Supervision and is currently certified as an Elementary/Secondary School Principal, Central Office Administrator, and Teacher Leader via the Macomb Intermediate School District.
Dewarne Long continues to create works, teach master dance classes, develop dance curriculum and teaching methods incorporating best practices in K-12 education, and attends dance and administrative workshops for professional development. Dewarne is an active member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance and National Dance Education Organization.
