Advanced 2D Art (2D Art II) 2002-2003

This class included a printmaking unit. We were working on block prints, using as blocks a material called "Soft-Cut". This is used instead of the traditional wood or linoleum as it is much easier to cut.

The design is drawn onto the block, and the areas that are to remain white are cut away with special cutting tools. The remaining areas are inked with a brayer (roller), and the image is then transferred to the paper by placing the paper on the block and applying pressure, creating the finished print. Students will be creating three separate images, printing editions of four prints per image.

The assignment for the first set of prints was to do a face.
