Physical Education

It is my goal as the Arts Academy in the Woods Physical Education Teacher to implement a program that emphasizes enjoyable participation in physical fitness and that helps students develop the knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, behavioral skills, and confidence needed to adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle.

Students will attain knowledge regarding the various fitness components and use this information to design and maintain a personalized fitness program. The atmosphere in physical education classes should be enjoyable so as to entice students to develop positive attitudes toward active, healthy living

Health Course

This course is designed to help you understand the concept of health as it relates to your everyday life. Many of you may wonder why take health and what is the importance of it with my life! Well, that will be answered all through this health course at Arts Academy in the Woods. Lectures and discussions will include, but are not limited to, the following areas: health/wellness, Body systems and structures, stress management, diet, nutrition, fitness and exercise, substance abuse, Alcohol and Tobacco, mental and emotional health, suicide prevention, first aid and CPR, HIV AIDS/HIV, and reproductive health.

Each class lesson is filled with hands on activities, demonstrations and discussions with fellow peers on the subject being taught. This allows students to engage in different learning styles and have a better understanding of what is being taught. Every Friday is healthy cooking Friday, where students volunteer to cook a healthy meal for the class. This allows students to experience that healthy food can taste good!
